Observe systematically, not randomly
Follow a consistent room order each cycle. Start from the entrance and work inward. This prevents you from accidentally skipping a room or missing a door state change.
Prioritize security over completeness
If you're running low on time or feeling overwhelmed, secure the critical entry points (front door, balcony door) before trying to spot every difference. A secured apartment with missed differences is better than an unsecured one.
Expect randomized changes
